Google delays cookie plans again, ‘Pay or okay’ – a new social media model, AI killed the influence star

Google delays cookie plans again. Google is probably a bit sick of UK regulators trying to scupper its third-party cookie (3PC) deprecation plans. Earlier this year, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) stated that Google "cannot proceed with third-party cookie deprecation" due to concern that its replacement, Privacy Sandbox, would further entrench Google's dominant position in digital advertising. According to a draft report seen by the Wall Street Journal, the country's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is now also joining the party, stating that Privacy Sandbox is not privacy-compliant as it contains gaps that could be exploited to identify users who should be anonymous. Google's plan to deprecate cookies in 2024 looked dead in the water even before they announced yesterday that the company won’t deprecate cookies in Q4 2024. Google hasn’t provided a new timeline but the longer this drags on, the more painful it will be for them to see it through. Privacy Sandbox | Cookie Plan Delay
